The anathema of masturbation is very common among young and adolescent boys. It is against a Islamic lifestyle. It is clearly Haram/prohibited and should be stopped at all cost. But it is said easier than done. Shaitan has powerful influence and only by help of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala can we overcome shaitan and this evil habit. Remember everytime one feels the urge, it is coming from shaitan and shaitan laughs everytime one gives in the urge. This evil practice is so harmful that it damages our physical health, mental health, sexual health and our soul. So we can not but overcome this obstacle that is holding us back in the path of Allah.

Firstly, congratulations on your determination to overcome this evil habit, and hence your taking the step to acknowledge the problem. Never ever give up, for as long as there is regret in the heart, there is hope that you will, insha-Allah, overcome this malady. Do not let the mere thought of blasphemy perturb you. You are, Alhamdulillah, a Muslim, and that is why you are concerned. A person does not loose his Imaan simply on a stray thought. Keep up the effort, and if perchance there is a slip, return to istighfaar, even if is be a million times. Eventually Shaitaan and the nafs (carnal desires) will get frustrated, and you will win the battle over them. Another remedy is that when the urge arises, consider that if someone senior or respected in your eyes were present, would you still go ahead. Would you do this act in front of your father or mother or grandparent for example? Certainly not! When the presence of this person can subdue the urge, it proves that you do have the potential of controlling this urge. It is just left up to you to now tap into this potential.

Remedy for Masturbation
The anathema of masturbation is very common among young and adolescent boys. One reason for this habit is the unrestricted movement of women on the streets, in the market places and at recreation centres. Women go about in tight-fitting and revealing garments, unmindful of the presence of men.
Obscene scenes in plays and films promote sexual self-indulgence. Periodicals and magazines that contain romantic and sexual matter lead young boys and girls to shamelessness and immodesty. Youngsters who are not inspired by the fear of Allah Ta’ala and of the consequences of their actions, are apt to gratify themselves by committing fornication and other unlawful acts, or by resorting to self-indulgence. These harm the body, the mind and affect one’s psychological health.
These symptoms may vary from person to person and some person may not suffer at all. Again some people may suffer worse than others. So those who don’t suffer should not think these are untrue but should thank God for protecting them from the worse.
Physical Health: A person who masturbates becomes weak and thin, palpitation increases and his memory becomes weak. The digestive system is impaired and inflammation of the lungs occurs. One may also become anaemic. These are the possible symptoms.
Sexual Health: Impotency is the natural outcome of masturbation. A boy who has indulged in the habit of masturbation is not capable of marriage when he grows up. If he does marry, his wife hates him and often husband and wife may divorce. If the woman is pious, she will become depressed and if she is not, she will resort to unlawful acts.
Psychological and Mental Health: A person who masturbates will suffer psychological problems and is liable to mental illnesses like forgetfulness, loss of memory, weak determination, preference for solitude, extreme shyness and fear, being sorrowful and possibly contemplate some serious crime or even suicide.
Injunction of Shari’ah in this regard: The act of masturbation is despicable. It is a grave sin and is unlawful. The noble Qur’aan commands the guarding of private organs. With the exception of sexual intercourse with one’s wife, all forms of sexual satisfaction are unlawful and these include fornication, adultery, homosexuality and masturbation, or any other sexual perversion. On the day of Qiyaamah, the perpetrators of such acts will suffer a dreadful punishment and will be deprived of the Mercy of Allah Ta’ala.
The remedy for this disease: Early marriage is a perfect, beneficial and natural remedy for this dangerous addiction.
Optional Fasts: If, for some reason, it is not possible to marry at an early age, voluntary fasts may be kept. By fasting, lustful thoughts are curbed and thus one’s sexual urge is reduced. Further, fasting promotes fear of Allah Ta’ala and creates humility. There are various kinds of voluntary fasts. One is the Sawm-e-Daawood [the fast of Daawood - Alayhis salaam] which means fasting every alternate day. Fasts can also be observed on Mondays and Thursdays, six days during the month of Shawaal, the ninth and tenth of Muharram, or any other day (besides the five prohibited days).
Shun whatever excites sexual thoughts: Young people destroy themselves when they pursue things that incite emotions and become like animals in fulfilling their desires. It is essential for young people to keep away from gatherings and opportunities that may arouse their sexual passions, or where they may come across women in revealing or tightfitting attire. They must abstain from listening to romantic tales or reading pornographic novels and magazines, hearing music and indecent songs or viewing such films.
Engage in fruitful pursuit: Adolescents and teenagers should not sit alone when they have nothing to do. This will allow their imaginations to run wild and sexual passions will be aroused. They should spend their time properly so that they do not get arousing and lustful ideas. They can keep themselves busy with physical exercise, pure recreation, sensible reading and religious lessons.
Good Company: It is important to select good and pious friends and companions. Such friends may guard us from erring and although they are rare, they are found everywhere. Search for such company and let yourself spend time with them. Remember that people imitate their friends. Therefore, to strengthen your Imaan, character and physique, keep away from evil companions and adopt the company of virtuous people.
Act on medical advice
Doctors of medicine give the following suggestions on how to restrain lustful desires and sexual urges:
• Have cold baths in summer.
• Pour cold water on the penis in other seasons.
• Engage in physical exercises and sports (some doctors recommend special exercises to curb lustful desires)
• Abstain from spices and all types of food that excite sex
• Cut down on tea, coffee and invigorating beverages
• Reduce intake of meat and eggs to a minimum
• Do not lie down flat on the back or on the stomach. Rather lie on the right side in compliance with the Sunnah.
Fear Allah Ta’ala
When fear of Allah Ta’ala is rooted in a person, all sinful and evil acts will be shunned. One will then realise that Allah is always watching, and is aware of everything, whether apparent or hidden. One will take account of every act of disobedience and omission of duty and will know that Allah will punish the disobedient from His Creation.
Young people must attend gatherings where Allah Ta’ala is eulogised. One must offer one’s Fardh Salaat and make it a habit to offer nafl Salaat and recite the Qur’aan on a regular basis. One must cultivate the fear of Allah, the habit of muraaqabah (meditation), and the realisation of Allah’s Majestic Powers. This is possible when one accustoms oneself to rising in the latter portion of the night for the tahajjud Salaat, keeping optional fasts, listening to the chronicles of the Sahaaba [Radhiallaahu anhum], spending time with pious people, keeping contact with the righteous and remembering death and the Hereafter. Therefore, develop such habits so that you are not drawn into temptation and sensuality. Remember that the punishment for disobedience and sinning is the fire of Jahannam.
Masturbation and steps for overcoming it
Masturbation is defined as the manual stimulation of the male or female genitals, not by sexual intercourse, designed to produce an orgasm. Masturbation is totally forbidden in Shari’ah.
One of the most humiliating problems that the constant male masturbator suffers from when he attempts to have sexual relations is premature ejaculation or the failure to maintain an erection. When a person is masturbating, he tends to reach his orgasm as quickly as possible but in sexual intercourse, he normally has to attempt to control his excitement which can impose a great strain on those who indulge in self abuse over a lengthy period.
Those who achieve insufficient satisfaction from sexual intercourse and return to masturbation or never give it up suffer a great torment. Sex life is empty for them, which leads to many more problems, marital disputes, divorce, etc.
Therefore, people who continuously masturbate lose out all round. The physical pleasure becomes reduced to a natural act like urinating or excreting and at the back of their minds there is an awareness that they are missing out on the real pleasures of life. No adult can honestly claim to masturbate without a guilty feeling of complete uselessness. Masturbation is merely an exhaustive rather than constructive undertaking resulting in nothing but total loss. Once orgasm has been achieved, there is nothing left except a feeling of complete emptiness.
Steps in overcoming masturbation
Be assured that you can be cured of your difficulty. Many have been, both male and female. And you can also be cured if you determine that it must be so. If you want to give it up, you need will power and determination. Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘The Niyyat of a believer is better than the act.’
This determination is the first step. That is where we begin. Firstly, you must decide that you will end this practice and when you make that decision, the problem will be greatly reduced at once. But it must be more than a hope or a wish more than knowing that it is good for you. You must realize that this is a great evil and you have to want to give it up.
It must be actually a decision. If you truly make up your mind that you will be cured, then you will have the strength to resist any tendencies which you may have and any temptations which may come to you. Ask Allah to help you and give you strength and steadfastness to succeed.
After you have made this decision then observe the following specific guidelines.
Guidelines 1. First step is to realize that you are violating Allah’s command and you are bringing upon yourself a life long destruction and harm.
2. Never touch the intimate parts of your body unnecessarily.
3. Avoid being alone as much as possible. Find good company and stay in this good company. Remember, an idle mind is the devil’s (Shaytaan) workshop.
4. If you are associated with other persons having this same problem, you must break off their friendship. Never associate with other people having the same weakness. Don’t suppose that both of you will quit together, you never will. You must get away from people of that kind. Just to be in their presence will keep your problem foremost in your mind. The problem must be taken out of your mind for that is where it really exists. Your mind must be on other and more wholesome things. It is mentioned in a Hadith that a person is upon the way of his friend. (Bukhari, Tirmizi)
5. When you bath, do so as quick as possible.
6. When in bed, if that is where you have your problem for the most part, dress yourself for the night so securely that you cannot easily touch your vital parts so that it would be difficult and time consuming for you to remove those clothes. By the time you started to remove protective clothing, you would have sufficiently controlled your thinking and the temptation would leave you. If the temptation seems overpowering while you are in bed, engage in something useful. The purpose behind this suggestion is that you focus your mind on something else. You are the subject of your thoughts, so to speak.
7. Never look at pornographic material.
8. The attitude of the individual has an effect on how easy it is to overcome. It is essential that a firm commitment be made to control this habit. The person must first realize the evil of this act. Secondly he must understand the reason for this behavior.
After these 2 steps, the individual needs to become sensitive to the situations and conditions which may cause a person to commit this vile act. Hence a person must guard himself from anything, which may trigger a desire for this act. By following these steps, a person gains the ability to gain victory from this act, hence the power to control this filthy practice is developed. Remember you need also a bit of will-power.
ADVICES
1. MAKE Duaa daily; seek help from Allah, this will strengthen you against temptation.
2. Follow a program of vigorous daily exercises. The exercise reduces emotional tension and depression and is absolutely basic to the solution to this problem. Double your physical activity when you feel stress increasing.
3. When the temptation to masturbate is strong, turn your thoughts away from the selfish need to indulge.
4. Set goals of abstinence. Begin with a day, then a week, a month, a year and finally commit to never doing it again. Till you don’t commit yourself, to never indulging yourself in this vile act, you’ll always be open to temptation.
6. Begin to work daily on a self-improvement program. Strive to enhance your strengths and talents.
7. Be aware of situations that depress you or that cause you to feel lonely, bored, frustrated or discouraged, these emotional states can trigger the desire to masturbate as a way of escape. Plan in advance to counter these low periods through various activities, such as reading a Kitab, visiting a friend, doing something athletic, etc.
8. Start frequenting the Musjid. Make it a daily practice to recite part of the Quraan. Find out about authentic books which you can read from your local Aalim.
9. Make a pocket calendar for a month on a small card. Carry it with you. Color the day on which you masturbate black. The calendar becomes a strong visual reminder of self-control and should be looked at when you are tempted to add another black day. Keep your calendar up until you have at least three clear months.
10. A careful study will indicate you have had the problem at certain times and under certain conditions. Try and recall in detail what your particular times and conditions were. Now that you understand how it happens, plan to break the pattern through counter activities.
11. In the field of psychotherapy, there is a very effective technique called aversion therapy .When we associate or think of something very distasteful with something which has been pleasurable, but undesirable, the distasteful thought and feeling will begin to cancel out that which was pleasurable. If you associate something very distasteful with your loss of self control, it will help you to stop the act. For example, if you are tempted to masturbate, think of having to bathe in a tub of worms, and eat several of them as you do the act.
17. Do not let yourself return to any past habit or attitude patterns which were part of your problem. Shaytaan never gives up. Keep a positive mental attitude and always stay on guard. You can win this fight! The joy and strength you will feel when you do, will give your whole life a radiant and spiritual glow of satisfaction and fulfillment.

Masturbation is haram in Islam. My creator knows about me much better than any human, so I believe Him and He tells me that masturbation is harmful, so I believe it.

With all due respect, you have reduced God to an imaginary friend, and your imaginary friend is just that, imaginary. I do not believe that God has materialized in front of you and spoken to you, or that you possess special mental powers that I do not. There may be a real power that created this universe, but the gods worshiped by religions are obviously just models of earthly rulers, only with exaggerated powers. The only ‘proof’ you have of your God boils down to a personal feeling – and believe me, Christians and Hindus ‘know’ (feel) their God is the true article just as sincerely as you do. And coincidentally, their God is in full agreement with their cultural beliefs, and likes / dislikes the same things they do. Funny how that works, huh?

The team concludes that the more men ejaculate between the ages of 20 and 50, the less likely they are to develop prostate cancer.
The protective effect is greatest while men are in their twenties: those who had ejaculated more than five times per week in their twenties, for instance, were one-third less likely to develop aggressive prostate cancer later in life (BJU International, vol 92, p 211).
The results contradict those of previous studies, which have suggested that having had many sexual partners, or a high frequency of sexual activity, increases the risk of prostate cancer by up to 40 per cent. The key difference is that these earlier studies defined sexual activity as sexual intercourse, whereas the latest study focused on the number of ejaculations, whether or not intercourse was involved.

I am not exhibiting any of these alleged symptoms, yet–and I reccommend that anyone with a weak stomach skip over this part–I masturbate at least daily. Sometimes twice.

As to this whole “the West oppresses women” thing, you forget one crucial fact: There is no law stating that women have to go out in skimpy. If you want to wear a burka on the beach, you can go right ahead. You have–and this is important–freedom to wear/do what you want, within reason. What would happen if a woman tried to wear a bikini in Islamic countries? I imagine there would be legal ramifications for her “sin” and “lawbreaking,” yet the oglers, the masturbators, and the torturers–I’m sorry, I mean law enforcement, sometimes it’s so hard to discern with corporal punishment–get off scott free. Furthermore, you states that in Canada we can wear anything we want – (again you seem to be ignorant of your own country’s laws) – however it has now become a law that burqas are no longer wearable by women. Third, take a look at how many people Europe and North America have managed to slaughter, torture etc. You say we oppress women? What about the case in which thousands of innocent women were burned alive during which they were accused of something as foolish as witchcraft…(yeah and we DEFINITLY oppress women, right).

It’s pretty sick how they go about it. The media completely deludes millions of people, makes the money, & then devastating effects upon society wreak havoc. No wonder this country is so desolate, disturbed, & depressed. Only the ignorant & rich are somewhat immune, but that’s scarcely true. that’s not Islam. You have to look at what Islam teaches, not what Muslims do. So many people say they are something & do the opposite. Look at politicians, doctors, & insurance companies. I have several reasons to believe you didn’t actually read that post:
1: I never said anything about wanting anyone destroyed, so I’m not sure how your violent fantasies put you “as low as me.”
2: I most likely mentioned the fact that I am an atheist before. If not, then at the very least I have been referring to Christianity in a third person sense, as in “I am not a part of this group.”

If you look past all of my sarcasm, you’ll notice that I do make several good points. In particular, this blog annoys me because it can’t back up the claim that masturbation is bad, so it has to use outdated science. Truthfully, all research shows that masturbation is not only normal, but it’s good for a person. What ticks me off is that this site aims to give people unnecessary sexual frustration just because they aren’t comfortable with the idea of them touching themselves.

No, science does not know everything, in fact I have never claimed that, but you’re seriously deluding yourself if you’re putting it above religion. While a religion’s claims about the nature of the universe are never or almost never verified, most scientific theories have only been added to over the decades, their content has not actually changed, they just become more accurate.

There is no correlation between masturbation and; memory loss, anemia, palpation, inflammation of the lungs, and impaired digestion.
All of that is just ridiculous. Where’s the proof? The statistics, the proposed mechanisms, where is any of that?

As well, you can’t be “prevented” from growing cancer cells. You actually have, in every cell, 2 mechanisms designed to prevent cancer. Of millions, even billions of cells, both mechanisms have to be bypassed in 1 cell before cancer can occur.

And the Quran also states that an idolator is worthy of the hellfire and such a sin will never be forgiven by Allah.

I went through lot of discussions held in past between major scholars, but the common point in all discussions are that our christian priest is left spell bound to some questions and doubts posed. on the contrary, Islam gave not just a simple answer but a broad one.
Now, suppose you have an exam to clear with no much time given (for preperation), and that is your sole goal in life and as such by any means you have to pass it. Now say, on one fine morning some “unknown guy” comes to you and gives you a secret copy of the questions that you have to mug up and can clear the exam with “little difficulty” . will you do that ? no ! you wont ! since you are not sure of the source (unknown guy) and as such just on that basis you cannot loose the only goal of your life.
At the same time, if on enquiry you find that “the unknown guy” was a servent of the final evaluator who is putting marks and he is giving hints to all, as to how to clear the exam, then how will your approach be. I answered myself. i am fool if i dont mug it up !.
All my success depends on the “enquiry” i made, and not keeping on preparing like an ignorant.
if you get the hint of what i want to convey, then please, put aside you ego, arrogance, ignorance and give some time to “think”, “study” and then come to a decision.

I’m giving…facts. No sane medical practitioner or psychologist would agree with any of the so-called detrimental effects of masturbation. In fact, usually the opposite is the truth, as in the study that showed regular masturbation helped to prevent prostate cancer, for whatever reason that works.

4)keep yourself busy, never give urself idol time, and if you are going to use a pc make sure u have a goal in mind, don’t use it aimlessly until you fall in inappropriate website..

The short version? It’s an honor killing story. Y’know, that thing where if a young girl so much as talks to boys, they can be murdered in oftentimes cruel & brutal ways. In this case, being buried alive. This actually occured in Turkey, which is probably the middle eastern country going through the most effort to modernize itself.
Personally, I have no problem with Islam, but it’s clear why these sorts of things take place. They’re societal. Traditional. People will resist change no matter how irrational that resistence is.
This blog is a testament to that. The fact remains that there is no sound basis on which to believe that masturbation causes any of these symptoms, but so far, the evidence has not been received well.
So, here’s my question: Can you really tell me with a straight face that Islam protects people? If it causes young men to go out & bury their daughters, sisters, nieces, or whatever alive, I don’t think you really can. If someone tells you that they’re contemplating suicide & nowhere do you say, “Go see a psychiatrist,” I don’t think you really can.

This website made me so disgusted. I am all for religion as it gives many humans a reason to live – but FALSE scientific facts are no help to anyone. Studies have shown that masturbation can help your sexual and mental health. It’s a great way to release tension, and it allows you to be comfortable with yourself if you know what you do/do not enjoy, not to mention the fact you’ll know how your body actually works.
I know little of the strong figures in your religion, but I’m pretty sure they won’t get mad if you touch yourself.

First of all, masturbation causes harmful mental effects, not helpful. It ends up leaving a void within individuals & they don’t properly interact with one another when sexual relations are involved. It creates a lonesome & guilty feeling in everyday life (some of that might go away after a while, but that’s because you’re numbing yourself, kind of like a drug).
As for your idea of a “good” religion…that wouldn’t make any sense. What you described is not the purpose of religion. Muslims believe that originally everyone worshiped one God, but people went astray & followed their own whims. Religion was not made up by someone for the sake of doing whatever they wanted. God’s commands to us are for our own betterment, whether we always see the wisdom or not. In societies that have really separated from religious life, there is corruption rampant. & by the way, the Qur’an wasn’t written by a human. Muhammad was illiterate (couldn’t read OR write). It would have been impossible for him to randomly write it much less come up with this perfect book.
As for the West “owning” religion…much of the “evidence” for evolution has been completely refuted yet they go on lying to students by teaching it in schools which is horrible. It’s a bunch of brain-washing. Actually the fossil record points towards creation (though the whole six DAYS probably isn’t right — in Islam we believe it was six periods, which in Allah’s eyes is probably a very long time, & Allah knows best).
Science has not made this world a better place in moral aspects…people who blindly follow science have practically taken it as their god (a thing of worship) & have left many of their morals & values behind. They forget that religion, namely Islam, brought about the rise of science NOT as a win-all, let’s run this world because it’s ours deal, but as a way to see how Allah has manifested his signs in the universe & a way to make life easier for humans so they can better worship Allah. I completely in agreement with that whole memory loss statement. A few weeks ago (before i found this) i noticed my memory was slipping and wondered why. Now i realized why. Before this my memory was perfect. I will follow the advice and hope it goes away. Im a 13 year old boy and am hoping 2 quit this sick habbit.

There are many things that can cause memory loss. Depression, sleep deprivation, and so on. Masturbation is not one of those things.

I want to stress 2 points:
1. Seeking forgiveness.
“And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse – and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled to him in the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace. Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. And whosoever repents and does righteous good deeds, then verily, he repents towards Allah with true repentance.” (Quran 25: 68-71)
Allah (SWT) commands us to repent. If we repent sincerely by:
1. immediately giving up the sin
2. vowing to never return
3. feel remorse and regret
Believe as he has commanded us and do abundant good deeds (such as extra prayer, fasting, giving in charity) to follow up our shortcomings.
“…Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds” (Quran 11: 114)
2. Become aware of associations and triggers and our whims.
In any addiction (or habit) there are certain associations or triggers that will culminate in the act itself.
The idea is to extinguish the conception of the act at the earliest stage possible.
If we become aware of the formation of that whim, before even the formation of the thought itself, we should seek refuge from the Shaytan and continue doing so… because in all likelihood he is whispering to us… and encouraging us to sin.
“And if there comes to you from Shaytan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” (Quran 41:36)
The principle is to avoid being in a situation that could potentially lead to the act.
“And come not near to illegal sexual intercourse verily it is a fahishah and an evil way” (Quran 17:32)
Avoid giving an opportunity to the Shaytan by not being in any situations that are associated with the act. Or, if you feel that this cannot be avoided, because you need to use the internet for example. Seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytan before using it.

Hi and Salam to everyone. I am a Muslim Alhamdulilah but there had been many turning points in my life, of the way I believe and have faith in god. It is the imagination, knowledge and wisdom that you gain through the various stages of your life. I would use an adage here “There is a huge difference between getting older and growing up”. By reading this post and the comments provided by many people I thought I could share my life experience and the problem with you all.
Age 7-15: I had been taught at home how to pray and other religious ways because of being in the guidance of my parents and elder siblings. I used to pray five times, I didn’t lie, I didn’t harm anyone by any means, I would trust anyone easily and literally I was a pure pious person. I don’t remember the date exactly but I was 12 or 13 when I even saw Jesus Christ PBUH in dream when he would come before 40 years of the day of resurrection which we Muslims do believe will happen. I saw some revolutionary and catastrophic events which scared me when I woke up. I wish I could see our beloved prophet Muhammad PBUH in my dream.
Age 15-20: As the days passed and I got affected by the environmental factors my traits tended to change. Life was not as easy as I thought it was. People do lie, betray, and use harsh words, envy, and even kill for some worldly benefits. Religion became nothing but just a cultural and a traditional thing to me. Let me put it this way, for a year I just like some of you, didn’t believe in god and became a complete atheist. I forgot the god and convinced myself that all the religions are nonsense which have been descended through generations and is just a way to keep you busy with. Eventually, I started to live a so called normal life, enjoy this life and die.. I avoided religion completely and started activities as internet, movies, of course immodest ones too, getting interested in girls, after the girl friends, having the girl friends (abstained from fornication Alhamdulilah). Surprisingly, whenever I committed a sin, I felt bad about it and it was as if someone would not let me go beyond and cross the limits. Times came when I respected all the religions and thought all the religions follows the same god and that is something good which soon I realized that “All roads does not lead to Rome”, being said that, I was just like anybody else under the influence of media.
Age 20 – till day: I am 23 now, I cared in the past and still care deep inside me that I was not brought into this world without a reason. Whenever I get weary from the things I am doing I give courage to myself study the principles of my religion Islam. I have also studied more or less the other religions including Christianity, Hinduism, Bhudism, and also Atheism which is just a belief but a lost and obscure one. If you are wondering, how come I study this much in such a young age and short period of time then I’d love to answer this, imagine a single day which has 24 hours and if we manage the time, many things can be done during that try it on meaningful things you will understand what I am saying. On the other hand, this question will not arise if you’re wasting your time on watching TV, hours of movies, useless chatting on internet, listening to songs and killing time in many other ways, but when it comes to reading a 114 chapters book Quran and the author is no other than God (Allah) himself, unfortunately, we will consider it as wasting our time. I would kindly ask any one of you to study your own religion first and then study Islam it won’t take much of your entire life. Not a single verse is against humanity but shows way to beautify your life. Religion is both easy and not easy at the same time. If you want to follow it, you should abstain from all the evil deeds it says and follow its guidance. I am telling you this from my personal experience because whenever for weeks and months or even a year I have followed my religion, no evil could ever harm me unless I do something wrong by my will.
Despite all this, there are problems that every human being suffers in one way or another, I always strive hard to break down this evil habit it has been 6 years that I am suffering constantly from it. I and every one of us can overcome it only if we make a commitment and apply the above mentioned remedy suggestions to our lives and ourselves. I thank Allah who guided me to this site today. Although everyone is born as a Muslim or Muslima but I was under the guidance or a Muslim family Mashalah but unfortunately, I went through other ways too, still I came back to the right path which means that Allah cares for each and every human and every small atom he has created on this earth and gives us chances and forgives us with His mercy. Finally I would say just one more thing which is that if you go away from the way of life, logically it will take time for you to come back in finding that way back. Please use your life as meaningful, keep your goals clear and because this life is a test and you will surely be questioned of the opportunities you were provided with.

I have gone through this stage of masterbatiion. I blindly masterbated whenever and wherever unaware of the consequences. However It started having really bad effects on me like not studying. I was always falling down and not playing football or cricket properly. I just wanted to kill myself and was so depressed.
But then I turned towards Allah and becuase of Allahs help I got over this problem
however I did not get over it. I am 18 years old and It has been a year since I have stopped masterbation. Now what I am about to say is not neccasirily also the case with you. Whenevber i go to the bathroom and pass out urine and stool I feel that some of the (masterbating liquid) or whatever you call it also comes out. Whenever I play any physicl game like football i feel it coming out. Whenever i wake up from sleep i feel it coming out. Not the full liquid but some of it comes out which also makes me feel weak. Now this is happening to me for the last whole year i cant live with myself. I am so depressed for when i think what i was and whatr i am.
I pray five times daily and do dua daily asking Allah to get me out of this problem. I usually have to miss my prayers because when i go to bathroom it comes out by it self and so i am impure. CAN PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO STOP IT COMING OUT BY ITSEL
i think u should consult a professional doctor…this should not be d case….and i dont think it makes you impure if it comes out of itself, sounds more like a disease to me. so just change cloth and do odhu again.
When you say “not the full fluid,” it sounds to me like you mean “pre-ejaculatory fluid.” That’s not really the same thing. My guess would be that certain physical activities might trigger the muscles controlling that to contract, but you might want to double-check with a doctor, regardless.

i am not a doctor but i can say it is a minor problem that can be cured with few antibiotics. u can try Garlic. Eat 1-2 garlic cloves daily. Inshallah u may be cured.

I’m a muslim and went through the article and most if not all of the comments. Frankly I’m quite unhappy with the article, especially the so called ‘ill effects’ of masturbation. I’m not going to back any of these, in fact it would be better if the author of the article gave links to the source of his information instead of just putting it in his own words and proclaiming it as the truth. In fact even Allah asks for proof when a claim is made. Please refrain from quoting so called ‘scientific facts’ without substantial proof. Its misleading and questionable both by the muslim community and the non muslim community, which would be mainly lithp ;] in this particular blog. I agree with him on this subject as you just do not have substantial proof of your claims. I’m not commenting to belittle you as such but just giving you a heads up that all claims must be backed up.
If further articles are written without substantial evidence, then even a non-muslim brother/sister would lose interest and come to accuse and accept muslims as ignorant. On a side note, I’m a doctor too and found your article alarming, I’ve googled about it and unfortunately have hit a roadblock with your claims. I may be ignorant or maybe uninformed as i’m not a specialist, but I dont hesitate to learn. So yeah I’ve provided my mail id and you can get back to me with hard evidence.

Dear brothers and sisters. This is my second post in here and surprisingly I have not attempted again on this act since my first post. Why? because the main reason I believe is that I have found my purpose of life again which I had lost for long time and again I would say when you live without a reason you surely will opt for such satanic acts because you will be hopeless and heedless at the same time. Moreover, I am following some of the remedy suggestions provided in the article above such as keeping yourself busy with activities like reading books and stuff, also got this pocket calendar for marking the calender days when you master****, but interestingly I am tick marking it everyday for the exact opposite reason and it feels childish but also feels good like accomplishing a mission
One more thing I wanna mention is that I still see people of other religions or even nonbelievers who come here and knows that this helps but mistreat and abuse Islam. Its all because of our ignorance and arrogance. It has been the human nature for ages when we hear our friend or a colleague giving us some good information or advise we simply ignore them or pretend we didn’t heard them instead of thanking them and acknowledging our mistakes, all because of the vain and greed. ADMIT THAT YOU ARE NOT BORN WITH KNOWLEDGE BY BIRTH AND PEOPLE DO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER.

I ask everyone to consider what I am saying with a neutral mind. One hundred years ago, the top of the line science made claims. Now, with our modern science and technology, some of those claims are verified and some are rejected. And 100 years from now, many things that we think are true today will be overturned.
There are countless examples. I’ll just name one: Breastfeeding. Within the past 100 years, our understanding of breast milk was that it is a very low-class thing to do, and it’s better to give your child formula. With modern science, formula is much better for your child than breast milk – or so was the understanding. But NOW we know that to nurse your child for at least 12-18 months is the best thing you can do for your child AND for the mother. The milk produced by the mother changes in composition as the child ages to support its development in the most customized way. Breast milk is loaded with maternal antibodies that get absorbed into the infant’s circulation that is not denatured via the infant’s digestive tract. Also demand feeding greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer in the mother and prevents menstruation, spacing out the pregnancies to protect other maternal health complications, etc.
Just to humor us even further, let’s look at alcohol. There was a time when we felt as a society that alcohol was bad and we went into the prohibition (this was partly politically motivated but I don’t want to get side tracked – the point is that as a society we said that alcohol was something unacceptable). And then more and more studies and research was done about the “health benefits” and the fiber content of beer and the scientific evidence that a glass of wine a day is healthy for you. And then another bit of research showed that it’s actually not the wine that is health protective, but rather the grapes that was used to press the wine. So the same benefit can be obtained from eating grapes.
To those attacking the religion of Islam for “backwardness” and what not: Perhaps you had a bad experience with someone growing up. Perhaps you are so fed up with what you see on the news. But please understand something. The attitude of the Muslim is that Allah is the one who created you and me, and He gave us a system of life that is for our benefit as a human civilization. Whether we can see the wisdom behind the rules with out short-sightedness and limited knowledge or not doesn’t change the simple fact that we simply just don’t know everything. Isn’t it possible that there can be a fact that’s true, but you just don’t know it yet?
As Muslims we believe in the Quran to be the verbatim word of Allah. This is a physical miracle that appeals to the intellect of those who question Islam from an academic level. Study the Arabic language, like realllllly study. Study Arabic to such a degree that’s physically not available in the English-speaking world. Go to the deserts of the Arab world and learn the ancient and classical Arabic from the bedoin, whose culture and lifestyle hasn’t been affected for 1400 years by capitalism and globalization. And then read the Quran in the language it was revealed. This is the challenge Allah (S) has for humanity. If you do all this, and still disagree that this is not the truth, then that is your call. Just make sure you are sincere in what you say, and don’t let pride or arrogance commit you to hold your position, even though your heart tells you otherwise.
If you determine the Quran to be the word of Allah with all sincerity… then everything in Islam is also commanded by Allah, the one who created you and me. You will realize how feeble it is to have faith in modern science, and how perfect the system of Islam is for humanity.
If I said anything to offend anybody, please forgive me. Anything I said which was correct indeed it came from Allah (S) and the teachings of the last Prophet (S). Anything which I said that was incorrect, it came from Shaytaan and the evils of my own nafs.
Brothers and sisters, please I as you to make dua for me, that I never engage in this secret habit ever again, and that in my heart it becomes something despicable, for me and for everyone else who is addicted to this… Ameen. Jazaak Allahu Khair.
One last note, I am pretty sure the scientific and medical symptoms the Sheikh was quoting came from the observations and writings of the traditional doctors/healers from the early Islamic world (Ibn Sina and so on). There are tons of literature out there from the early Muslim scholars but the problem is the vast majority of the works are not available in English (and the world suffered a tragedy when the libraries of Baghdad was raided by Ghenghis Khan, but that’s besides the point). Perhaps anemia, and inflammation of the lungs and so on are not 100% synonymous to what anemia and inflammatory lung conditions are in our scientifically advanced world of this day and age. But out of respect for the sheikh, this is what he was taught and he is presenting this information to us. We can take it or leave it, but brothers and sisters, please respect our teachers. If they are misinformed or outdated, we must with utmost love and respect correct them, but never in a confrontational way. Jazaak Allahu Khair.

I am a doctor , Internal medicine specialist, and a Muslim. I agree that masturbation is haraam and a harmful vice but I would refrain from making unsupported claims as far as the physical and mental health outcomes. I for one am appalled at the claims made by this article.

I don’t know how long the wait is going to be. It’s been 5 months to my marriage now. I get sexually frustrated which leads to masturbation. I know it’s a sinful act. But isn’t masturbation acceptable in this kind of situation? I pray 5 times a day and I fast too. I keep myself as busy as I can. When I’m not I can’t help to NOT think about it. I can’t tell my husband to visit me often as is not easy to travel from so far. I know my husband is going through the same thing. It’s very difficult to live like this. Interestingly, religion aside, there are many truths and untruths in this debate which I hope to clear up. Excessive masturbation IS injurious to the male organism. Note I wrote EXCESSIVE. Excessive depends on the age and health of the individual. It is a PROVEN medical fact that masturbation practised twice a week by a male in his late teens to early thirties reduces the incidence in prostate cancer in later life.
From the perspective of the religious what I have written here would be considered unclean or unlawful in all of the major monotheistic religions. When I asked a theologian colleague of mine to point out the prohibition against “the sin”, he, as many do, reiterated the story of Onan spilling his seed on the ground. Yet Onan’s sin was that he refused to impregnate his brothers wife and withdrew his “organ of generation” at the critical moment and spilled his seed on the ground”.
His crime was not spilling his seed but failing to “Carry out a duty that was culturally expected of him, i.e. impregnating his brothers wife”.
However as a doctor and scientist I KNOW too chronic masturbation does effect the parasympathetic nervous system, the renal system, hyperactive sympathetic nerves L1 and L2 for Parkinson symptoms with dopamine, cholinergic serotonin and GABA nervous control disorders), and water retention (too much vasopressin), as a result of over-ejaculation. The key here is moderation. All repression is negative and eventually manifests in psychological disorders. As one whom believes in creation AND evolution; I never quite understood why they are mutually exclusive, but there again I am not one for brainwashing; I realise that any supernatural creator created everything, all thoughts all actions, all evolutionary principles, inter alia, ad infinitum.
If you do not want to masturbate I would suggest meditation and deep breathing exercises, however be assured that if you abstain you will most certainly ejaculate nocturnally (at night). I wonder is that still sinful? Remember moderation is the key to life.

2.Read “FAZIAL E AMAL” the word of Mohammed(pbuh)
3.Daily recited QURAN when i was free and the chances of masturbating were high.
4.I studied the meaning of the holy quran in different languages that kept me involved in other bussiness

Well, I’ll give you both answers because they are both true. Because Allah created everything, living & non-living, it is He who decided how everything will be. As for how humans have discovered the mechanisms by which He has done this, the answer is contained within the genome. The genotypes carry what will determine the phenotypes (plus epigenetics are now showing great potential to explain even more). These aspects are all from the Creator, for he does what He wills & is the Owner of Beauty.
2. If Allah is omniscient and omnipotent, how does sin exist in the first place?
This life is transitory, a journey. It isn’t the destination (we die of course). Thereby we have to ask, what’s the reason we’re alive? I won’t get into the whole evolution vs. creation argument (though it’s interesting), but I will say that most people don’t know why we’re alive. Next to everyone asks that question at one time or another because it’s natural for us to want to know. & we do have a purpose, though I won’t get into that since I know you don’t agree. But basically, in the end, this life ends up testing us. How do you know who is good & who is evil (or who is inclined towards these poles)? Humans obviously cannot agree, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an answer. Only Allah knows, but he makes it obvious by testing us in this life. He doesn’t stop up from doing something so we can sin or do good. He knows everything & is all powerful, but He doesn’t stop us because He gave us this free will. Nothing we do can hurt or benefit Him. If we sin, it only hurts us; If we do good, it only benefits us. Sin is our disobedience to Him, but not a force against Him. In the end, it will only serve to harm those who sin (or those who are oppressed by this sin). When fewer people fear Him, sin becomes prominent as is seen in our society & around the world (because the influence of Western society as well as British society has crept into the Mideast through colonization as well as exploitation of resources). Sin exists but it does not harm the Creator, only creation. It does not detract from Him & does not contradict His existence in anyway.
3. Furthermore, if Allah is omniscient, then how is free will possible?
He knows everything & can do anything, but he gave us free will. Many people don’t understand this concept, but that’s alright because it is quite simple to understand if you break it down. So, Allah created us, the world, the universe. He has the ability to control it however He pleases. The root of the matter gets back to our purpose in life. We are here to be tested. If we were placed here with no free will, there would be no test. We would obey Him at all times, like the angels do (that’s why they aren’t here instead of us, they cannot disobey Him therefore are good & pure & cannot be tried). Although we do things, He already knows the outcome. He knows everything that has, does, & will happen. He does not force us to do anything however, but He makes the results. We give the effort & He causes whatever happens to happen. He tests us based on how we react to the situations & outcomes He decrees. Free-will does not mean we are not under His rule. It merely means He gave us that honor; we are given the opportunity to do evil or to do good which means we can either become the scum of the earth (& the Hereafter) or we can rise in rank in this life (& the Hereafter). You don’t have control over what is happening trillions of times every second within your body. You don’t control gravity. You don’t control the properties of the elements (they may react to various situations we impose, but they do so by His decree). The laws that govern the universe are called laws for a reason. All in all, we live in this world, are allowed to choose what we do & are held accountable for our choices. By His mercy we’re allowed to know if we are good or bad because He allowed us to live our lives out & to make these choices instead of just sending us to Paradise or Hellfire (people would have complained that if they had been given the chance, they’d have done good; well, here’s your chance).
4. What tangible–or at least empirical–evidence is there for an afterlife &/or a deity?
Okay, suppose you find a watch in a desert. There is no one around that you can see. You pick up the watch, seeing it has an intricate design. If I said that this watch just came about by itself because of a whole bunch of random happenings that all happened by chance, no one would believe me. It was made by someone, even if I cannot see them. Intelligent design (& do not try to tell me this world does not have intelligent design because then I’ll tell you go to out & look again) has to have an origin. It has to have a designer. Even the statistics point to the fact that this universe, this Earth, could not exist by mere coincidence. …That the laws aren’t broken isn’t a sign of perfection, Laws of the Universe are named as such because they CAN’T be broken. You can’t have an object with mass that doesn’t have gravity. I stumbled upon this blog because I was researching on islams view on masturbation, just out of curiosity tho.but after reading all the nice and heart warming comments, I feel the need to say a word or two on masturbation.
I think I can see some sense in the stuffs posted here. However, many are just plain ignorance (no offence here, I just can’t find better word to describe) on science and particularly, human biology and psychlogy..our decisions are strongly (if not completely) controlled by combination of neuron activities and hormonal activities..ever wonder why u feel lustful?also, ever wonder why orgasm feels so great? Well, go ask medical pros and they will tell you..the same goes to why sexual urges are difficult to tame..
(If at all, it was our species way, and all other species way, to ensure the continuation of their species.)
For everyone who feels that you are a victim of masturbation, don’t be. It is not a wrong thing to do, and it is perfectly natural. Just try to do it in moderation, because if u do it excessively, at some point your brain will take shorcuts and will associate sex with fast ejaculations. Plus, it will make you less sensitive to sexual stimulations, which in the long run, may lead to a form of mild impotence.
If you have access to sex, do that instead (but safely ofcorz!)
Feeling guilty for doing something that’s natural will make u even more depressed, and that is scientific fact..

I don’t know why people believe in old stories of our ancestor’s that didn’t know nothing about science at that time (or almost nothing compare with today).I mean listen if there were such a thing as Allah or gods it would be a natural thing to do, it would be in our genome and it would not be something taught by our parent as a culture.I don’t believe that there is an invisible man in the sky watching every step I make and everything I do and that if I ever do something he do not want me to do.Well he has created a special place for me full of anger ,suffer, pain, fire, enslavement and the like, to send me to for the rest of time.But this guy loves me ,yeah, he loves me and he need money, this powerful man just can’t handle money.So where does it stop?I think that a powerful guy like him that give cancer, flood ,tsunami’s,earthquakes and allow ourselves to kill each others in mass through wars and conflicts and for profits (regarding to the wealthy) , to kill its people that he created is just a psychopath.So if you ask me if I believe in god well I’ll tell you ‘not the one I have heard’.Because I don’t know what kind of god makes an unequal world with unequal rights some don’t even have rights at all. Man no rights at all ,wtf!I think gods are just a primitive way to control people lives and separate them from what big similarity we all share,I think that they are all man made gods because it sound more to me like its a group of people trying to control another group. I know deep down in your heart that you believe in a higher power. That whenever you are in difficult times, you hope that your ‘god’ helps you, Our god, Allah s.w.t. In the quran it is mentioned that all human beings are born muslim (They naturally have the feeling that there is only one almighty god). That’s why some people call it revert instead of convert. Allah gives us challenges and difficulty so that we may be steadfast in times of it and in the holy book he says, that after difficult times come good times. And we musims believe that Allah is our god because It’s stated in the holy quran (revelations) you should buy and read it with an open heart, and the teaching of his Messengers too. Think about it, what’s the purpose of life? is it to be born, enjoy life, and simple die?? the end? Is this miracle of life meaningless?? Obviously not. The only logical explanation is that there is an afterlife, an eternal life. In Islam, your destiny in the afterlife depends on every action you do in your temporary life on Earth. Your life on Earth is a test to recognize that there is a creator and ultimately worship him. He who has created from one tiny sperm to who you are today. C’mon this can’t be some coincidences like all the other coincidences atheists claim. Quran is the way of life, if only everyone in the world followed the quran and sunnah, the world would be at peace and not how it is today. Seriously, you have to read the quran, it will help you spiritually and intelligently. Someone as intellligent as you should alrdy know that there is a creator of the universe, How many more signs do you need? look at all the creations around you. Allah says in the quran, “O men! Here is a parable set forth! Listen to it! Those on whom, besides God, ye call, cannot create (even) a fly, if they all met together for the purpose! And if the fly should snatch away anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. Feeble are those who petition and those whom they petition!” (al-Hajj, 73). Islam Has all the solutions to our problems. Read the quran, i beg you. I hope Allah gives you the guidance so that we may meet in paradise after we die. on a last note. Allah says in the quran “every soul shall have a taste of death”.

There is no such thing as a “missing link that will prove evolution.” There never was, any more than there was a “missing link that would prove the periodic table.” The “missing link” only refers to predictions that, if & when they are found, will further support the theory. The synthesis of Plutonium was one such prediction, as was the discovery of Galium. As a matter of fact, “theory” denotes the highest standard of proof that a model of nature can achieve, it cannot be “promoted” to something further. And if that means they’re wrong, then I guess you don’t believe in germ theory, gravitational theory, atomic theory…of course, considering the content of this blog, that’s probably all true.

Hi, I just wished to post something for those who masturbate but who believe it’s wrong and wish to stop but have been unable to. I found a solution after many yrs and I feel it is my duty to share this with others. Masturbation can be an addiction, which as all addictions requires willpower to stop but sometimes even that is not enough.
I am a 22yr old Muslim male and have masturbated regularly since I was 14/15. I am religious in most ways, pray, fast, give zakah, read Qquran, don’t drink, don’t womanise etc, but this is one sin that I have not managed to shake. However much I tried, I could not break my need to do it. I tried everything, you can find lots of things on the internet written by scholars – praying will protect you, marriage, fasting, asking Allah; I tried other things like saying well I would never want to parents to catch me, imagine what they would do, but Allah sees all so why am I doing it – but then I argued that Allah is more forgiving and carried on. Sometimes I would manage to go a week or two but eventually the end result was always the same.
***Solution: One day last year, I decided enough was enough. So what did I do? I did my Wudu, sat down and read some Quran, then I placed my right hand on the Book and swore an oath to Allah that I would not masturbate until the New Year (it was June at the time so for approx 6 months). I then prayed 2 rakah, asking Allah to accept this and to help me fulfil my promise. Making an oath with God is a small simple act physically, but spiritually it is massive. Alhamdullilah, the New Year has just passed and I can say I passed with flying colours. I didn’t masturbate once in that time, and after the first few weeks I only had a small urge to masturbate once every few weeks, most of the time I did not even think about it. It was a revelation, and showed me that the addiction could be broken – and for those wondering, it didn’t make me more horny, sexually frustrated, run around after girls or walk around with a hard on for 6 months.
Now to some this method may seem somewhat extreme. But it worked, and it worked well. And I had tried many other methods before. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. I believe if someone has even an ounce of Taqwa, they fear Allah just a bit, they would never dare break an oath, and that is all that is required to keep one’s promise to Allah (and whoever is reading this and wishing to stop no doubt has some Taqwa) – for those people inshallah then this method will work. It worked for me, and inshallah it will work for others and I will have done a good deed. Even if it helps one person, it will have been worth posting this. And if you try this and it works for you, please spread this.
P.s . Be sensible, don’t make the Oath for 20 years because then you may break it, similarly don’t make it for like 1 week because what’s the point then – something reasonable like 3 months to begin with, then 6months, the maybe a year.
